AVLR: Cadeby Light Railway Day

March 28 2026 @ 11:30 am - 4:00 pm

Forty years ago, in 1986, the world bid farewell to the Rev Teddy Boston. Immortalised as the Fat Clergyman in the Thomas the Tank Engine stories, Teddy Boston built and operated the 2’0″ gauge Cadeby Light Railway around the village rectory gardens. After that railway closed, much of the equipment came to Apedale and under the care of the Moseley Railway Trust. On this day, we will operate some of that equipment and remember Teddy and Cadeby.

Update 28/1/26:- Fares for this event will be:- Admission and a single  train – £5 adult, £1 child. Day Rovers – Adult £15, Children £3. Locos in use will be WOTO (impersonating another well-known Bagnall), plus a selection of the ex-Cadeby internal combustion fleet on passenger and freight trains. These will include Hudswell D558, Motor Rails 2197, 7710 (No.42) and 8748 (No.20). We are also delighted to welcome a visiting loco to the event – the little Cadeby petrol loco which (probably) hauled more passenger trains than the rest of the fleet combined. Intrigued? Only one way to find out! Trains will run from 1130 to 1600. NOTE that this event is on SATURDAY only.

Please note that this event is run by the Apedale Valley Light Railway.  For info see www.avlr.org.uk or e-mail info@avlr.org.uk
