Coronavirus Information

8th April 2021: Updated with Surface Tour Info

We have now reopened as the lockdown restrictions are relaxed. This is restricted to the cafe area only as museums are not allowed to open until later. Indoor seating is not yet available due to the retrictions.

All arrangements are subject to change with circumstances and government advice.

Face coverings

Face coverings should be worn in most indoor public spaces. This includes all indoor areas at the Apedale Heritage Centre. We appreciate your cooperation in this.

Track and Trace

Official QR codes are available at the door and on each counter for you to sign in via the NHS app. As well as manual sign in sheets, visitors to the museum, surface tours and café customers who are using a table will be asked to sign in. This applies to everyone over the age of 16, not just one member of the group as before.

The café is open daily, with our regular menu. Seating is only available outdoors at this time, in accordance with government guidelines.

Counter service is allowed where alcohol is not sold, so orders will be taken at our cafe counter, with a queueing system in place.

Outside/Takeaway: If your order requires preparation, it will be brought out to a food collection point just outside the main entrance. Please observe social distancing advice around our entrance.

Mine Tours

We are unable to run mine tours at the present time due to the pandemic We cant say when we will be able to resume, as this decision is in the hands of the Mines Inspector.

New: Surface Tours

Surface tours are available on Sundays until we are allowed to rsume underground tours. The Surface tours will now feature the chance to see the Tinsley Winding Engine running. There will be small charge this time (£3 adults, £1 concessions) which will help to cover the cost of fuel, oil and grease, and also go towards the further restoration of the engine.
